Ingredient Notes

This recipe calls for deli ham but you can substitute it with thick-sliced country-style ham.

You can use chives instead of green onions if you prefer.

Use a good quality loaf of crusty French bread. Cut off the top and hollow it out. Save the bread interior of the bread. Cut the bread into cubes and toast them with a bit of olive oil, salt, and pepper in a skillet over medium heat.

How To Make This Hot Ham and Cheese Dip

To prepare this Mississippi Sin Dip recipe:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Cut the ham into medium dice.
  3. Drain the green chiles.
  4. Slice the green onions thinly.

Recipe Variations

There are countless ways to change this dip to suit your taste. Here are a few to whet your appetite and creativity:

  • Swap the ingredients. Use cooked bacon bits or sausage instead of ham. Substitute the green chiles for pickled jalapenos, or change the cheese to Gruyere or Smoked Gouda for a robust, smoky flavor.
  • Spice things up. Sprinkle in a teaspoon garlic powder, a dash of smoked paprika, or a little white pepper. Add a teaspoon Worcestershire sauce and your favorite hot sauce.
  • Use different bread. This dip is also great in sourdough or Italian bread.
  • Forget the bread bowl. Use a casserole baking dish to heat and serve the dip. Or you keep it warm in a Crockpot slow cooker on low.

How To Serve Mississippi Sin Dip

The traditional way to serve this dip is inside a bread bowl with crackers, tortilla chips, chips, or toasted bread croutons. But you have lots of other options:

  • Turn this dip into a sandwich spread and serve it between two buttered slices of toasted or grilled sourdough bread.
  • Use it as a hearty filling for a baked potato.
  • Hollow out and toast dinner rolls to make an individual serving.
  • Eat on a bagel or hot biscuit for breakfast.
  • Stuff inside an omelet.

How To Store Mississippi Ham Sin Dip Leftovers

If you served the dip, be safe and throw away any leftovers. However, if you made extra dip and didn’t put it out, you can refrigerate it for up to three days in an airtight container.

How to Reheat

Reheat the dip in the oven at 350°F for about an hour. Heat the dip in a covered casserole dish or an aluminum-wrapped bread bowl.
